Melissa Liptak, AMFT
Associate Marriage and Family Therapist
Melissa is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (#114759) currently completing requirements for licensure in California under the supervision of Dr. Nina Kaiser (PSY 22555); she joined the Practice team in August of 2020. Melissa specializes in working with children and adolescents experiencing a range of mental health challenges, including anxiety, depression, learning and behavioral issues.
She aims to empower her clients by teaching them the necessary skills to help regulate their emotions and boost self-esteem. In addition to her work with children and families Melissa also enjoys working with parents, providing them coaching and support to help them improve family relationships. She also has a special interest in maternal mental health both during pregnancy and postpartum.
For the past year, Melissa has worked as a therapist for CPMC’s Child Development Center, part of a multi-disciplinary team that supports children and families with developmental, behavioral and learning needs. As part of its outreach program, Melissa also provides school-based counseling services to at-risk Gr. 4-8 students at the DeMarillac Academy.
Prior to becoming a psychotherapist, Melissa worked in corporate and non-profit marketing. She received her master’s degree in counseling psychology from the University of San Francisco, her undergraduate degree from Rutgers University and holds a master’s degree in French from New York University. She is excited to work towards becoming a therapist. She credits her certification in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction from UCSF’s Osher Center, and her continuing training from the Beck Institute for Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Yale’s Child Study Center as integral parts of her personal and professional philosophy. In her spare time, Melissa enjoys spending time in the Bay Area with her husband, teenage daughter and two dogs.
