Stephanie Rooney, Ph.D.

Licensed Psychologist and Clinic Director

Stephany Rooney, Practice San Francisco Therapist

Dr. Stephanie (she/her) is a highly-trained psychologist (WA PSY #60207930, CA PSY #32718) with nearly 20 years experience delivering adult therapy, adolescent therapy and parent coaching. Her work is dedicated to helping adults and adolescents develop skills to more effectively deal with difficult thoughts and feelings and create more meaningful lives. Known for her straightforward, open perspective, Dr. Stephanie delivers evidence-based interventions that help clients to reduce their struggles and live a more engaged and connected life.

As a mother herself, Dr. Stephanie also has a particular interest in working with adults who are struggling as parents or just simply trying to stay afloat. She understands that being an adult is hard, career and families demanding, and we all can use a little help to be the co-worker, spouse and parent we want to be. At its essence, therapy is about personal connection, and she strives to provide a safe, comfortable environment for her clients to do the hard work of looking inward in order to make actionable change.

Dr. Stephanie has been an integral part of PRACTICE San Francisco since 2018. In addition to providing skilled individual and group therapy, she also supervises and trains pre-licensed and early career therapists in evidenced-based modalities - Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). She is a licensed psychologist in the state of Washington (WA PSY 60207930) and California (CA PSY 32718). Dr. Stephanie earned her B.A. in Psychology from Stanford University and doctorate in Counseling Psychology at the University of Texas. When not at PRACTICE San Francisco, she can be found attending her son’s basketball games, and exploring Marin’s trails and restaurants.
