Ashley Goldsmith Buttner, Practice San Francisco Therapist

Ashley (she/her) is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (#96354) who worked in schools for over 10 years before joining Practice San Francisco. She trained in public elementary and middle schools in San Pablo, Berkeley, and Palo Alto. Before joining Practice in 2021, Ashley had spent 5 years as a Lower School Counselor in independent schools in San Francisco and Berkeley. During the summers, she works as a therapist for Camp Tawonga, supporting campers and staff of all ages.

Her approach is child-centered, holistic and collaborative – often focused on reframing our relationships to difficult emotions, and building coping strategies and skills to manage them. Ashley incorporates play, and Cognitive Behavior (CBT) techniques, into her work with children, adolescents, and parents. Ashley also specializes in working with neurodivergent kids, teens, and their parents. She studied CBT with the Beck Institute, and is trained in Yale's Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE) program.

Ashley is a Mill Valley native and attended Marin independent schools for her K-12 education. After graduating from Skidmore College, with a B.A. in Women's Studies, she earned a M.S. from Northeastern in School Counseling, and a M.A. from John F. Kennedy University in Counseling Psychology. She is the Alumni Representative for the Board of Trustees at her elementary school, Marin Horizon. When she’s not working, Ashley enjoys hiking, camping, yoga, crossword puzzles, and exploring the delicious restaurants and ice cream shops the Bay Area has to offer.
