October 2024: Support Your Child’s Growth with In-Depth Assessments
Hi, Practice families!👋
As you may already know, we have re-launched psychological assessment services at Practice this fall.
As a psychologist who previously provided assessment services myself (first through UCSF’s Hyperactivity and Learning Problems clinic, then for a decade-plus as a private practitioner), I have seen firsthand the positive impact a psychological evaluation can have on a child and their family. I have spent the past two years working to rebuild assessment services at Practice and am thrilled to have hired top-tier assessment psychologists to grow our team!
Why?
As a provider, I’ve seen assessment change the lives of children and their families. Assessment offers a deeper understanding of why kids are showing up in the world the way that they do– and provides specific and personalized best next steps for support and/or accommodations that help kids thrive.🧠
As a mom, I’ve seen assessment offer my own kid information about his learning profile that transformed how he understands himself and his own abilities– and how he shows up as a learner.💪
A strong evaluation will offer you and your child or teen a comprehensive sense of your child’s strengths and areas of growth as a learner– and an understanding of how best to put strengths to work in a way that offers scaffolding and support in areas of challenge.🌱
An effective assessment will foster your child or teen’s confidence, self-esteem, and growth mindset– by identifying and naming their strengths, by normalizing areas of challenge, and by framing these challenges as opportunities for practice and growth.
At Practice, we are delighted to be able to offer psychoeducational and neuropsychological assessment services to families in the community– without long wait times that can delay your child’s progress. Your kids are growing and changing every day– and we think you should be able to get support and information that will help you find the right path at the time that you need that information most…not six to twelve months down the road.
Much like our other services at Practice, our testing services are research-based and developmentally attuned. Our assessment team provides state-of-the-art evaluations using standardized, evidence-based measures that help us get an in-depth understanding of how your child is doing and what they need to thrive.
Our assessment psychologists are all advanced, doctoral-level practitioners with previous training and experience in top-tier medical centers across the U.S., capable of partnering with you to provide comprehensive and personalized evaluations that speak directly to your specific questions and concerns.
Our team has deep, long-standing connections with local schools and service providers that help us truly understand your child’s daily experience– and that make it easier for us to get you and your child or teen the follow-up support you need.
And– just like all of our providers at Practice– our assessment psychologists know that life is a journey. We are here to offer ongoing support and consultation as you and your child or teen move forward in navigating your next steps, as well as any longer term transitions and challenges.
Maybe you’re worried because your child is struggling with attention or learning. Maybe you are wondering if your child might have ADHD or autism or a learning disability that explains the challenges they are facing, or maybe you’re concerned about your teen’s anxiety, mood, or substance use. Maybe your child has a traumatic or acquired brain injury, seizures, or is managing a chronic medical or neurogenetic condition that impacts their day-to-day functioning.
For any and all of these concerns (and more!), we’re here to help give you a clearer picture of your child’s cognitive, learning, and emotional profiles, and an understanding of how this uniquely relates to the way in which your child processes and interacts with the world around them. With this greater understanding, you will be equipped to advocate for your child and their needs- along with our ongoing support! As part of our assessment services, we provide individualized feedback regarding specific recommendations, referrals, and resources that will offer you a clear path forward, as well as a comprehensive written report that you can share with your child’s school and providers so that your support team is all on the same page and can work together most effectively!
