“It has to be perfect.”

“Everything would be just right, if it wasn’t for this one mistake.”

“Now my project is ruined! I’m giving up. Nothing will make it better.”

Mistakes happen! And sometimes mistakes feel like a big deal. The thoughts we tell ourselves are so powerful, they can change the way we rebound from a mistake. Our thoughts have the power to stop us in our tracks, or even give up. But our thoughts can also motivate us to keep going, experiment and try again.

When we persevere through a mistake, it can feel like discovering a superpower! And it kind of is. Mistakes are a natural part of learning something new, sometimes by total surprise. Some of the world’s most awesome inventions were created by mistake. The chocolate chip cookie? A mistake. The popsicle? A mistake. Play-doh? Oops.

In its debut session, Mindful Art Circle is a place for 1st-5th graders to :

  • Make art

  • Warm-up to flexible thinking

  • Get creative with mistakes

  • Recognize the thoughts that come up when mistakes are made

  • Practice mindfulness through art, breathwork and light movement

We will support 1st-5th graders in developing mindfulness-based tools, making art and connecting with peers in an outside-of-school setting.
