March 2024: Want your workplace to better value and support parents?
Hi, Practice Families!👋
In 2023, we had the opportunity to partner with a large local tech company on an innovative employee benefit designed to support employees who are also parents!
Our team at Practice San Francisco contracted to provide monthly one-hour support groups designed to offer employees who are also parents the opportunity to connect and build community with other parents at their company– and to obtain both expert input from our experienced providers (in combination with facilitated community support) on any specific challenges employees were currently facing around parenthood, family life, or work-life balance.
Since we started these groups, we’ve navigated a vast range of topics, including:
navigating parental leave and return to work post-leave
managing tough kid behavior at home and/or school
supporting transition to kindergarten
coping with parental guilt
setting boundaries around work
prioritizing home and professional commitments based on values
fostering kids’ independence and confidence
accessing support in the workplace
supporting kids in managing anxiety or big emotions
navigating tough conversations with direct reports and with supervisors
communicating with teachers and advocating for your child in the school setting
co-parenting effectively with partners, and more.
Let’s face it: supporting working parents should be a priority for every corporate employer. Companies providing strong supports for parent employees see improved employee retention (and are more attractive to potential new hires!), as well as better productivity and profitability— when employees do well, employers do well too! Obviously, flexible/remote work, childcare benefits, and paid parental leave are at the top of the list of impactful supports that employers can offer— but employers who think outside of the box and go even deeper in expanding supports for parents and caregivers are at a huge competitive advantage when it comes to attracting and retaining parent talent.
Shoutout to this company for knowing that their employee parents needed more support— and for offering their employees this groundbreaking service! We’re proud to partner with and support companies in providing services that prioritize mental health of employees and families and directly improve parenting and work/life balance— and we’re actively accepting new corporate inquiries.
If you’re a parent at another corporate employer and want your employer to offer a parallel benefit, reach out to your HR department– we’d love to partner together to create a similar program to support parents in your workplace, or work together to come up with a specific plan to meet your company’s needs.
Warm Regards,
The Practice San Francisco team
